Atwood and Nellie Victoria Welch Atwood on August 20, 1898, at Moorefield, Frontier County, and passed away August 12, 1980, at Geneva, at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 22 days. One of seven children, he attended schools in Nebraska, Washington and Canada. He and Dorothy A. Atwood and Nellie Victoria Welch Atwood on August 20, 1898, at Moorefield, Frontier County, and passed away August 12, 1980, at Geneva, at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 22 days. One of seven children, he attended schools in Nebraska, Washington and Canada. He and Dorothy A. Rutherford of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, were united in marriage October 11, 1922, and to them four children were born. He was preceded in death by one daughter, his parents; two brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nellie Jean (Harold) Martin of McCool Junction and Mabel Isabella McMahon of Fairmont; one son, Sidney Earl Atwood Jr. of York; brothers, Harvey J. Atwood of Kennewick, Wash., and Raymond P. Atwood of Lincoln; a sister, Mary (Ralph) Gallup of Omaha; and the greatest joy of his life, his eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Sidney was self employed, having many talents which led to his livelihood. He worked as an auto mechanic with his father in the garage at Fairmont, later moving to Moorefield and then to Hayes Center, where he engaged in farming with his father. The family returned to Fairmont in 1934 where he again had a garage and auto agency. Later he returned to farming and retiring from that, took up carpentry. He served on the Fairmont City Council 20 years and town terms as mayor. He was a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 48 AF&AM of Fairmont, Mount Moriah Chapter 19, Order of the Eastern Star at Fairmont and a member of the Fairmont United Methodist Church. He loved baseball and many friends throughout the state remember him pitching, and in later years umpiring. The funeral services were held Friday, August 15, 1980, at 2 p.m. in the Fairmont Community Church, conducted by Rev. Jay Vetter, with Masonic services also at the church.
