She was preceded in death by her parents John Carlisle Bland and Lydia Hart Bland, a brother Carlisle Tazewell Bland, a sister Lydia “Lilli” Bland and a brother John Robert Bland. She is survived by a nephew Richard Carlisle Bland and several nieces. Dorothy attended Pleasant Hill High School and graduated from West Point High School. She received her B.S. She is survived by a nephew Richard Carlisle Bland and several nieces. Dorothy attended Pleasant Hill High School and graduated from West Point High School. She received her B.S. Degree from Madison College JMU and her Master’s Degree from the University of Virginia, where she was president of Kappa Delta Pi. She taught school at Rappahannock Country High School, Lane High School in Charlottesville, Virginia and was a guidance counselor at Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia. She gave 41 years of her life to education and belonged to the NEA, VEA and AEA. Dorothy was a former member of AAUW, the Women’s Club of King & Queen County and the King & Queen Historical Society. She traveled extensively throughout the world, but said there is no place like home. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 6th at Old Church United Methodist Church Cemetery, Shanghai, VA. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
