Description	:	Dorothy Ann Preheim was the second of seven children born to Lynn and Ethel Waltner Preheim. She was born in Yankton, S.D., on Oct. 14, 1948 and died at home in Freeman, S.D., on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007. Read More	Dorothy Ann Preheim was the second of seven children born to Lynn and Ethel Waltner Preheim. She was born in Yankton, S.D., on Oct. 14, 1948 and died at home in Freeman, S.D., on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007. Dorothy was an energetic child, always with a plan of someplace to go and something to do. She enjoyed her early elementary days at her country school, Schlosser District #15, then at Freeman Academy and Freeman Junior College. She received her BA from the University of South Dakota in December 1969 in elementary education and taught fifth grade at Norfolk Elementary School, Norfolk, Neb., for five years. Her second year of teaching, Dorothy was honored as the Teacher of the Year for her work in curriculum writing. Dorothy enjoyed singing, photography, genealogy and gardening and harvesting its produce. Family connections and family history were of great significance to her. She delighted in taking photographs at family gatherings. She enjoyed hosting her siblings from a distance and in more recent years became the caregiver of her mother, which enabled Mom to stay in her own home. Dorothy worked as a dietary aide at the Salem Mennonite Home since 1983 and remained a faithful worker until a month before her death. Her family, her work and the church gave great meaning and joy to her life. Dorothy was baptized at Salem Mennonite Church on June 6, 1965. Grateful to have shared her life are her mother, Ethel Preheim; sisters: Gwen (Dean) Preheim-Bartel, Nina Preheim, Elizabeth (Mark) Osborne; three brothers: Kirk (Anita), Bill and Mike. Dorothy's nieces and nephews are Tony Preheim, Dustin (Stephanie) Preheim and Karen (Brett) Runge, Anni Friesen, Ben Friesen and Morgan, Sara and Casey Osborne. In addition there are both Preheim and Waltner cousins as well as several aunts and uncles who remain to celebrate her life. Preceding her in death are her father, Lynn Preheim; sister-in-law, Joan Preheim; and brother-in-law, Gary Goertz. The funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Salem Mennonite Church with S. Roy Kaufman officiating. Deb Schmeichel was organist and Muriel Kaufman Graber was the Scripture reader. Music was provided by Kirk Preheim, Joel Juillard, Phil Jensen and Tom Sperling of the Master's Voice Quartet, and Liz and Morgan Osborne. Gwen Preheim-Bartel gave a tribute to Dorothy. Interment was at the Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery.
