Description	:	Dorothy Smalley, 81, went to be with our Lord Jesus on April 16, 2008. She was born March 9, 1927, to Peter and Georgia (Duncan) Dyer in Wenatchee, WA. Dorothy was the oldest of four children. She grew up in Wenatchee and graduated from Wenatchee High School. Dorothy was vocally and artistically talented. Read More	Dorothy Smalley, 81, went to be with our Lord Jesus on April 16, 2008. She was born March 9, 1927, to Peter and Georgia (Duncan) Dyer in Wenatchee, WA. Dorothy was the oldest of four children. She grew up in Wenatchee and graduated from Wenatchee High School. Dorothy was vocally and artistically talented. Her younger years were influenced by the Great Depression and World War II. Her family struggled financially and she would help out with field work or babysitting. At the age of 18, she married Clarence Fechner and they had two daughters. During her early married/single life, she worked at the Army-Navy Store, Zittings, Wenoka Fruit and Queen Fashion in Valley North Mall. Dorothy also managed to provide foster care for numerous children. In 1975, she met and married Douglas Smalley. This union united his four grown children, with her two. By Doug's side, Dorothy continued in foster care and they adopted a baby girl in 1981, and a 13 year old girl in 1997. More and more children would arrive and sometimes, they would have 10 or more kids at a time and half would be babies. Dorothy thrived in this environment. She also helped Doug run the Pangborn Memorial Airport Cafe', a KFC in Othello, Dee's Gift Shop in East Wenatchee and Christi's at Valley North Mall. In the late 80's, Dorothy became ill and she and Doug moved in with their grown daughter, Vicki, terminating foster care for a short time. After recovery, Dorothy soon set the wheels in motion for Vicki to be licensed in foster care. With the arrival of more children, their roles changed to grandma and grandpa. Dorothy knew everyone at DSHS and Children's Home Society and had watched the changing of the staff for 50 plus years, while continuing to play a vital role in nurturing the children. She also helped children through World Vision and Children International. Her prayers covered starving children all over the world. Dorothy had an enormous heart and generosity to match. She loved to attend Breath of Life Church and fellowship there. She was either a saint or an angel, to put up with so many kids. She gave new meaning to the word "Mother." Survivors include her children, Judi (Dave) Ramsey of Clinton, Cathy (Johann) Theiss, Vicki Fechner, Christi (Jon) Smarro, Patricia (Justin) Johnson, all of Wenatchee and Joy (Don) Dunagan of East Wenatchee; her sister, Jackie Gibbs of East Wenatchee; and her brother, Robert Dyer of Kennewick; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas Smalley; her son, Douglas Smalley, Jr.; her grandson, Rick Spross-Ramsey; and her sister, Shirley Gibbs. A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Dorothy on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Noon at the Breath of Life Church in John Newbery Elementary School on 9th Street and Western Avenue, Wenatchee. child: Douglas Smalley Jr b: 21 Sep 1947 d: 17 Jun 1994
