She was born in Crawfordsville on May 27, 1921, to Clarence and Alta Harmon Bir. She married Eugene Houston in Reynolds on Oct. 4, 1939. He died on Oct. 14, 1998. She was a 1939 graduate of Reynolds High School. She lived in Monticello since 1950, coming from Reynolds. She worked at White County Memorial Hospital office for 15 years. She was born in Crawfordsville on May 27, 1921, to Clarence and Alta Harmon Bir. She married Eugene Houston in Reynolds on Oct. 4, 1939. He died on Oct. 14, 1998. She was a 1939 graduate of Reynolds High School. She lived in Monticello since 1950, coming from Reynolds. She worked at White County Memorial Hospital office for 15 years. She was also a dispatcher for the police department. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Monticello, and was involved in the St. Anne Circle and Altar and Rosary Sodality. She was a member of the Moose Auxiliary. Survivors include her children, Judy Claypool of Monticello, Barbara (Russ) Vandervate of Lafayette, Ed (Mary Jane) Houston of Delphi, Beverly (Burton) Chadwik of Newark, Calif., Susan (Mike) Marchetti of Carmel, Ken (Debbie) Houston of Monticello, Nancy (Bill) Creech of Plymouth, Ron (Micky) Houston of Lafayette, Carol Wild of Carmel, Brian (Kate) Houston of Winamac, Sandy (Greg) Johnson of Monticello and Lori (Brian) McIntosh of Monticello; a sister, Ruth Buschman of Monticello; 38 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Sons, Mike Houston and David Houston; a sister, Naomi Homan; and a brother, Kenneth Bir, are deceased. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with a rosary to begin at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, with the Rev. James R. Goodrum officiating. Burial will be at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Monticello Dialysis Center.
