Description	:	Dorothy Simmons, 93, of Bonaparte, died at 5:18 a.m. Friday, January 8, 1999 at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua. Born February 20, 1905 at Bonaparte, she was the daughter of Frank A. and Mary E. Thompson Warner. On January 1, 1927 she married George Simmons in Keosauqua. He preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of the Bonaparte area and a graduate of Parsons College. She taught at the Bonaparte school for more than 30 years. Born February 20, 1905 at Bonaparte, she was the daughter of Frank A. and Mary E. Thompson Warner. On January 1, 1927 she married George Simmons in Keosauqua. He preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of the Bonaparte area and a graduate of Parsons College. She taught at the Bonaparte school for more than 30 years. She was a member of Bonaparte United Church, where she taught Sunday School, a 50-year member of both PEO and Eastern Star, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers Association and TTT. Survivors include five daughters, Mary Ellen Kaness of Cedar Rapids, Elizabeth Calvert of Elgin, Illinois, Myrna Kreiger of New Castle, Colorado, Margaret Heald of Auxvasse, Missouri and Frances Jolliffe of Waukee; 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister. The funeral service was held Monday, January 11, in the Bonaparte United Church with Reverend Bill Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Bonaparte Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Bonaparte United Church.
