Description	:	Elizabeth "Beth" Ann Calvert, 88, of Bourbonnais, passed away Saturday (June 2, 2018) in Bourbonnais. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. She was born June 13, 1929, in Bonaparte Iowa, the daughter of George and Dorothy Simmons. She married Leo Calvert on June 1, 1952, in Bonaparte, Iowa. He preceded her in death. She was born June 13, 1929, in Bonaparte Iowa, the daughter of George and Dorothy Simmons. She married Leo Calvert on June 1, 1952, in Bonaparte, Iowa. He preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Tracey Calvert, of Ingleside; daughters, Lisa Calvert and Jon Schmidt, of Riverside, Kristin and Brent Bunnell, of Bourbonnais, and Jill and Fernando Herrera, of South Elgin; sisters, Peggy and Glenn Heald, of AuxVasse, Mo., and Frances and Al Jolliffe, of Waukee, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Calvert; and sisters Mary Ellen Kaness and Myrna Jean Kreiger. Elizabeth was a retired teacher. She graduated from Drake University in 1951 with a degree in music education. She taught at Dallas Center, Iowa. until the birth of her first child. She and her family moved from Iowa to Kansas and then Illinois. She resumed her teaching career in 1969 when she joined the staff at Elgin's U46 District. Teaching music was her passion but she readily moved to a regular classroom setting when budget cuts eliminated the music program. She retired from U46 in 1989. Elizabeth had always been a supporter of the Elgin Symphony and became more involved after retirement. She also received an award from the City of Elgin for her participation in the Neighborhood Watch program. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin. She loved visiting her hometown of Bonaparte, IA where she and her sisters would gather to catch up. Memoriams may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, Elgin Symphony Orchestra or Bonaparte United Church. -Published in the Elgin Courier News on June 10, 2018
