She was born July 22, 1920, to Nicholas and Amelia (Sherbert) Bersing in Spokane, and moved as a small child with her parents to Peshastin where she attended school. She was born July 22, 1920, to Nicholas and Amelia (Sherbert) Bersing in Spokane, and moved as a small child with her parents to Peshastin where she attended school. Following graduation from Peshastin High School in 1937, she lived in Seattle and San Francisco and on Jan. 5, 1946, she married Alfred Stemm in Wenatchee. They purchased the family fruit ranch in Peshastin, where they lived for many happy years. Dorothy was the first librarian in Peshastin and later worked for the Department of Labor and Industries as a claims investigator for 20 years, retiring in 1981. After Al's death in 1979, Dorothy met and enjoyed many people through her bed and breakfast, the Eagles Aerie, and never knew a stranger. Mrs. Stemm was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Leavenworth, the Leavenworth Golf Club, the Leavenworth Senior Center, the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, the Peshastin Womens Club, the Sons of Norway and was an active member of the Democratic Party and a former precinct chairwoman. Dorothy loved fishing and hunting and spent many hours doing both with Al. She was an avid skier and golfer and was instrumental in getting her grandchildren involved in sports. Survivors include a son, Nick Stemm of Edmonds; a daughter, Camille Stemm of Leavenworth; two grandsons, Scott Smallwood and Nels Stemm; and three granddaughters, Zoe Stemm, Sarah Smallwood and Laura Smallwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, a brother and two sisters. Ward's Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
