Description	:	Dorothy Josephine Hollister was born to Bessie Uhler. Dorothy, in her 97 years was known as Josie, Toad, Mom, Mother, mommy, Aunt Josie, but by most of us as Grandma. Grandma was married to Lewis Lee Slusser, February 3, 1909. To this union, six sons: Lee, Don, Guy, Max, Charlie, and James Lloyd and three daughters, Elizabeth Fern, Hazel Belle and Dorothy Maxine; 39 grandchildren, 105 great grandchildren and 54 great great grandchildren were born. Daughter Hazel Belle and son Charlie preceded her in death. All of us have been touched by her stories of her life as a child... the crossing... Daughter Hazel Belle and son Charlie preceded her in death. All of us have been touched by her stories of her life as a child... the crossing of Missouri and Kansas to Oklahoma in a covered wagon where people were making claims on homesteads...losing her cat named Kansas on the trip. Riding her pony Maude to herd cattle...how she would chuckle when she talked about being just a little ornery in school and scooting over and knocking her school mate onto the floor. Many of us have run with Grandma, her long black braids flowing behind, through the grasses on the prairie. We've gone with her to the sandy creek bottoms looking for colored beads the Indians had left and then made pretty rings and necklaces to wear. How blessed we all have been to have known such a lady. To have her with us for so long, and to have her in such good health and right mind to know all of us by name until her eyes closed for the last time.Grandma wasn't afraid to die, she just didn't want to go alone. Never has anyone gone so un-alone. This is a tribute to Grandma called "Grandma's Poem": By Phyllis Slusser Taken from Dorothy own hand writing: My great grandmother Lucinda Snavley. My grandmother Catherine Snavley Uhler was born January 20 1849.Passed away April of 1924. My mother (went by Bessie) name was Mina Elizabeth Uhler (Hollister) born Feb, 4, 1873, Died July 17 1933. Interesting note. Dorothy went by her middle name Josie. Of all her nine children only two went by their first names, Max and Charlie. All of her other children went all their lives by their middle names.
