Otte was born to Loyd and Ruth Hedlund Wythers, August 21, 1920, on the family farm near Fairmont, the third of four children. She died Sunday, September 6, 1998, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 78 years and 16 days. She was baptized in the Congregational Church in Geneva. Dorothy was confirmed and married at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grafton, where she remained a member until the day of her death. Dorothy attended school in District No. 85, graduating from Geneva High School in 1938. After graduation, she was employed by the Chestnut Produce Company until her marriage on June 6, 1939 to Frank W. Otte of Grafton. To this marriage three children were born: Judith, Jerry and William. Dorothy and Frank lived on their farm near Grafton until their retirement in 1980, when they moved to their home in Geneva. However, their interest remained at the family farm and her love for gardening and flowers continued. She loved life and all that it had to offer, bowling, golfing and anything to do with any “Big Red” sporting events. She loved to attend the Husker football games and did so for many years. She and Frank loved to travel, seeing the beauty of the world. Dorothy was an active member of the Royal Neighbors Extension Club, Madres Kensington, Couples Card Club, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Lutheran Ladies Society. She was chairman of the Lifeline and volunteered at Heritage Nursing Home. Her live centered around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy’s winning smile will be dearly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Ruth Wythers; brother, James Wythers, and son, William. She is survived by her husband, Frank of Geneva; daughter, Judith and her husband Ron Tischer of Baraboo, Wisc., son Jerry and his wife Peggy of Grafton; sisters, Leta Solt and Evalyn Slepicka and husband, Fred, all of Geneva; sister-in-law, Beverly Wright and husband, Norman of Geneva; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grafton, at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 1998 with Pastor Darren Green officiating. Cheri Domeier accompanied the church choir who sang “Asleep in Jesus” and “Go Now in Peace.” Casket bearers were Paul and Jim Baumann, James Oberlander, Alan Slepicka, Dave, Mark, Steve and Todd Wythers.
