Description	:	Dorothy Lucille (Savage) Briggs was born at home in Bedford, IA on April 10, 1935, the daughter of Pearly and Lula (Cooksey) Savage. Dorothy joined two sisters and one brother: Carmelita Nelson, of Farragut, IA, Darlene Milburn of Fremont, NE, and Marvin Savage of Shenandoah, IA. Dorothy attended Bedford Community School and later earned a GED and associates degree in accounting and bookkeeping from Iowa Western Community College in 1983. Dorothy joined two sisters and one brother: Carmelita Nelson, of Farragut, IA, Darlene Milburn of Fremont, NE, and Marvin Savage of Shenandoah, IA. Dorothy attended Bedford Community School and later earned a GED and associates degree in accounting and bookkeeping from Iowa Western Community College in 1983. Dorothy was united in marriage to Franklin Delano Briggs on Oct 25, 1952 at Bedford, IA. After starting their life together on the farm they lived in several locations in Iowa before settling in Farragut, Iowa in 1975. To their union was born three daughters and one son: Rita Davis (Mrs. Donald) of Shenandoah, IA, Annette Thomas (Mrs. Dick) of Craig, MO, Ms. Carole Lane of Omaha, NE and James F. Briggs (and wife Pam) of Shenandoah, IA. Dorothy had seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Dorothy served on the Farragut City Council for four years and was a member of the Farragut Garden Club. Dorothy passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, January 20, 2008 at Grape Community Hospital, Hamburg, Iowa. Dorothy is survived by husband Frank, her four children, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister, Carmelita and brother Marvin. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Pearly and Lula Savage, her sister Darlene Milburn and grandson Chad Thomas. Services were held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Gus, Iowa, on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 with Pastor Gary Fuller officiating. A memorial fund has been established in Dorothy’s name.
