Read More	Dorothy Mae Blass, age 98, of Early, IA, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Dorothy Mae Catherine Landgraf was born May 4, 1919, to Albert John and Pearl Elizabeth (Dinges) Landgraf in their family home in Odebolt, IA. She grew up on the family farm east of Odebolt and later moved south of Early. She attended country school for two years, finishing out her elementary years at St. Martin’s Catholic School. Dorothy graduated from Odebolt High School with the class of 1936. She completed her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed her faith at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt. On May 29, 1941, Dorothy married Raymond Earl “Beans” Blass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, IA, where she became a member. Dorothy and Raymond’s marriage was blessed with four children: Don, Robert, Gene, and Sue. She served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Guild, and sang in the choir. In later years, she attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. Dorothy was a teacher in rural schools for four years, librarian at Early Public Library, and taught at Sacred Heart School in Early for 10 years. She was a great role model for her children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed dancing, knitting, crocheting and traveling with her “Special Guy”. She was an avid Hawkeye Fan and followed the Hawks enthusiastically. Her family brought her great joy and she treasured spending time with them. After her husband’s death in 2000, she moved to Oak Terrace Estates in Sac City and made many wonderful friends. She wrote a monthly column for the Sac Sun titled “Along the way with Dorothy Mae”. Survivors include her children: Robert (Joyce) Blass of Chariton, IA, Gene (Patricia) Blass of Centennial, CO, and Sue (Gerome) Cox of Spring Hill, FL; grandchildren: Lisa (Matt) Dunahoo, Angie (Tim) Stalder, Elizabeth (Philip) Greazel, Brian (Tara) Blass, Cindy Blass, Jennifer (Geoff) Smith, Nick (Jennifer) Cox, Michell (Dominic) Thompson, and Laura (Aaron) Zmek; great-grandchildren: Rachael and Nathan Dunahoo, Emmaline Blass, Luke and Tyler Hernandez, Amelia Thompson, Max Stalder, Abby, Emma and Owen Zmek; step great-grandchildren: Brittany and Dain Stalder. Other survivors include her sisters: Barbara Faber of Spencer, Jean Jackson of Davenport, Helen (Paul) Eckerman of Conrad, and Lois (Roger) Kipf of The Villages, FL; her brother George (Margaret) Landgraf of Odebolt; sisters-in-law Jean Blass of Early and Marjorie Blass of Denver, CO; many extended family members and a host of friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; son Don Blass; sisters: Marianne Landgraf (infant), Mildred Olberding, Marilyn Fitzgerald and Kathleen Determan; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
