Funeral mass was held Monday, August 25, 2014 at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic church. Interment was in the Shelby Sacred Heart Cemetery. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements. Dorothy was born on February 7, 1924 in Shelby. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Gable) Langer. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements. Dorothy was born on February 7, 1924 in Shelby. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Gable) Langer. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1941. Dorothy received her normal training and taught at various country schools in the Shelby area for 4 years after high school. She married Gerald "Tom" Carter on June 5, 1945. To this union three children were born. She lived most of her life in Shelby but moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1956 with her husband and children where they resided until 1959, when they moved back to their farm in Shelby. In April 2012 she moved to the Silver Ridge Memory Support Facility, where she resided until her passing. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards (especially bridge), gardening, cooking, baking and traveling. She was always there when you needed her. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church and St. Ann's Guild in Shelby. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Anna Langer, and husband Gerald "Tom" Carter who passed away March 3, 2012.
