She was a resident of University Retirement Community and had lived in Davis for more than 45 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Robert (Bob), in 2006. Dorothy was born in Whittier, CA. She was the daughter of Frederick and Gladys Schneringer, who had a country feed and hardware store on a small farm in rural Whittier. Dorothy and her younger brother had fond memories of life on the farm, raising chickens and helping in the store. Dorothy attended Whittier High School. Pasadena Junior College and earned her bachelor's degree in fine arts at the University of CA at Los Angeles. She met her future husband, Bob Brazelton, at Douglas Aircraft Company in Los Angeles, where she illustrated and he wrote technical aircraft training manuals during World War II. When Bob's orders to ship out to Japan were moved forward, thy hurriedly completed plans for their wedding in 1945. After Bob returned from Japan, he began his engineering degree at UCLA, completing his degree in agricultural engineering at UCD while Dorothy taught school. The Braselton's began their family while living in Rio Vista, with the birth of William and Nancy. Subsequent moves to Los Angeles and then to Carmichael brought Bob and Dorothy to Northern California where they resided for the rest of their lives. In 1965, they moved back to Davis and Bob took a position at UCD as an Extension agricultural engineer. Dorothy taught elementary school in Woodland, at Gibson and Plainfield Schools. After her retirement, Dorothy became active in many social causes and rekindled her artistic interests. She was a proud member of the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters and Yolo County Women's History Month, where she volunteered to create annual displays in the Davis Library and City Hall to mark the progress of women's rights. When not busy with these activities, Dorothy found time to pursue her art, volunteer at the Pence Gallery, attend Jazzercise and work weekly with the members at the Davis Library, where she enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship of the other members. Her move to University Retirement Community in 2009 brought a new circle of friends and activities into her life. Art projects, book clubs and keeping up with her friends rounded out her time. Dorothy is survived by her brother Fred Schneringer, her son William Brazelton and his wife Donna. Of Phoenix, AZ, her daughter Nancy Philleo and husband Chris, of Scottsdale, AZ, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews who have been important in her life. A memorial service will begin at 3pm. Saturday, April 14, at Davis Community Church, 312 C st. Remembrances may be made to any of the organizations noted above. Dorothy will be interred at the Davis Cemetery during a private family service.
