Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia was in charge of funeral arrangements. Dorothy Verniece Mohror was born July 21, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Louise (Luetkeman) Mohror in Arlington, South Dakota. The family moved to Iowa in 1922 and she graduated from the Brooke High School near Peterson, Iowa, and worked in various homes in the area. She married John Hartwig on March 28, 1943, at the St. John's Church in Brooke Township. During WWII she traveled with John's unit to Oregon, Washington, Texas, and South Carolina. When John's unit was sent to construct the ALCAN Highway in Canada, she moved to Cherokee, Iowa. After the war they became farmers and moved to the farm near Aurelia in 1958. The couple had two daughters. Dorothy was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, a past member of the Aurelia Library Board and the Aurelia Heritage Society. She also belonged to Maple Valley Friendship and various Bridge clubs. Dorothy loved the farm lifestyle, music, cards, and being Gramma Dot.Dorothy died Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, her husband John on December 30, 1983, her sister, Harriet Zarr, and three brothers-in-law, Ralph Hartwig, Roy Stieneke, and Leonard Stout.Survivors include her daughters, Peggy and her husband Loren Kolpin of Grinnell, and Shirley and her husband David Pierce of Aurelia, six grandchildren, Angela and husband Jade Niemyer of Orange City, Laura and husband Chris Flowers of Florence, KY, Nichole Hanks of Sioux City, Paul Kolpin of Grinnell, Mike and wife Emily Pierce of Larrabee, and Mark and wife Chelsey Kolpin of Grinnell, and eleven great-grandchildren; K.P., Keesten, and Kyrel Hanks, Trey, Bailie, and Delanie Niemyer, Daenen, Daxsten, and NyAnna Pierce, and Ben and Samantha Flowers. She is also survived by three sisters, Vera Stieneke of Cherokee, Phyllis and husband Rex Boatman of Waterloo, and Marcella Stout of Las Vegas, two brothers-in-law, Bud Zarr of Aurelia, and Robert Hartwig of Cherokee, two sisters-in-law, Joyce and husband Ike Stead of Surprise, AZ, and Ruth and husband William Klotz of Ankeny, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
