Dorthy Goossen, 85 years of age, of Beatrice, NE. passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice, NE., Wednesday morning, February 9, 2005. She was born on August 9, 1919 in Beatrice, NE. and lived in the Beatrice area her entire life. She was a 1937 graduate of DeWitt High School in DeWitt, NE. and then taught in a country school. She and Theodor A. "Ted" Goossen were married on May 27, 1941 at Beatrice, NE. They lived on farms west of Beatrice until they moved into Beatrice, NE. in 1994. She was a member of the First Mennonite Church, R. Beatrice, NE., had directed the Children's Choir, and had been the Sunday School superintendent and teacher for many years. She had been a very active member of the Mennonite Women's Mission Society. She was a past member of the Homestead Extension Club. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She also enjoyed entertaining family and friends and was always a gracious host. Survivors include her son Ronald Goossen of Los Angeles, CA.; daughter Darlene Dieckhoff of Lincoln, NE.; daughter in law Janet Goossen of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota; Grandchildren Jathan Dieckhoff and Jennifer Dieckhoff, Angelia Goossen and Melinda Goossen; step grandchildren Julianne Hersch, Jolene Hersch, and Stephanie Mattley; 2 step great grandchildren; sister Gertrude Claassen and her husband Don of Beatrice, NE.; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Elizabeth (Thimm) Claassen; husband Theodor A. "Ted" Goossen (October 29, 2004); son Harvey (2000); and sister Frieda Claassen. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the First Mennonite Church, R. Beatrice, NE. with Reverends Florence and Weldon Schloneger officiating. Interment will be in the Mennonite Cemetery, R. Beatrice, NE. The body will lie in state Friday from 10-9:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. and at the church one hour preceding the service on Saturday. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. Saturday at the church. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation Spiritual Ministry program and the First Mennonite Church Video Tape Ministry with Louie Esau Jr. and Louis Goossen in charge. Message of condolence may be sent to [email protected] They will be forwarded to the family. Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice is in charge of the services.
