Description	:	***Korean War Veteran***U.S. Air Force Douglas Farrell McFarland, age 76, son of Walter Wayne and Frances Aleen "Bobbi" [Smith] McFarland, passed away April 20, 2007 in Joplin, MO at St. John's Hospital from a massive heart attack. He and his twin brother, Donald Carroll, were born February 22, 1931 in Harrison County, MO. Doug and his twin brother joined the USAF and were stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Read More	***Korean War Veteran***U.S. Air Force Douglas Farrell McFarland, age 76, son of Walter Wayne and Frances Aleen "Bobbi" [Smith] McFarland, passed away April 20, 2007 in Joplin, MO at St. John's Hospital from a massive heart attack. He and his twin brother, Donald Carroll, were born February 22, 1931 in Harrison County, MO. Doug and his twin brother joined the USAF and were stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge, Doug began farming with his father. On October 10, 1954 he married Marie Ann Hildebrand. To this union were born three daughters and one son: Tara Ann, Karen Jo, Lisa Kay, and Jay D. Doug was an inventor and was issued several patents. He was always thinking of new ideas and improving different types of machinery. In 1990 he was listed in "Who's Who of American Inventors." Doug loved helping others without any thought of personal gain. He was an Elder in the Community of Christ Church and served in many capacities. Doug loved his God and country. He was very concerned with world affairs. In recent years, Doug worked as a troubleshooter and consultant. In this capacity he made many friends and continued in these friendships over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; brother Jack; twin brother Don; sisters-in-law Clara Ann McFarland and Dorothy McFarland; and his father and mother-in-law. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie McFarland of Leon, IA; daughters Tara McFarland and husband Greg Jordison of Lamoni, IA, Karen Jones of Independence, MO, and Lisa Silver and husband Dennis of Lamoni; son Jay McFarland of Leon; grandchildren: Aaron Leeper and wife Chandra, Jessica Barth and husband David, Eva Rensing and husband Jesse, Russell Nelms and wife Terri, and Desirae Silver; great grandchildren, Madison Leeper and Emerson Rensing; brothers: Jim McFarland and wife Ruth of Earlham, IA, Larry McFarland of Truro, IA, Roger McFarland and wife June of Sequim, WA, and David McFarland and wife Joy of Tingley, IA; sister Linda Boord and husband Harry Greene of Sitka, AK; brother-in-law Gale Hildebrand of Lamoni; many nieces and nephews and their extended families; and many friends. Doug considered himself very rich in friends. Fueral services were held April 27 at the Lamoni Community of Christ in Lamoni, Iowa with Elder Marvin Sword, Priest Doyle Baughman, and Elder Don Breshears officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni. Arrangements were through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni. A memorial fund has been established by the family. FURTHER INFORMATION: 1.
