Description	:	Douglas was born in Beatrice, Neb. Dec. 15, 1938 and passed away quietly October 27, 2006 in Ukiah. He grew up in Marysville, Ks with the sunflowers and hay crops. He said he never went to high school dances because he was always playing trumpet in a local jazz band. He said he never went to high school dances because he was always playing trumpet in a local jazz band. That explains all those old 78 recordings of Louis Armstrong and other famous jazz artists that he has saved all these years. He didn't know how to dance, anyway. He received a degree in mathematics from Kansas in Lawrence, Ks and headed to Los Angeles, Ca. It was there he got his initial experience in computer technology working on Government contracts to develop guidance systems. The computers in those days filled huge warehouse buildings and were significantly larger than lap tops. It was during this time that he learned to play banjo and became a devotee of Traditional Folk and Bluegrass music. He and his wife, Lee Mernaugh, met in LA and in 1969 relocated to San Jose. He worked awhile for Ampex and then was hired at the Sony as a Senior Programmer. His proudest achievement there was helping to design the TV editing systems that are common place in broadcasting today. In 1995 Potter became his new home. After all those years of computers he was able to pursue his real love. After buying a small farm he began growing vegetables and fruit to sell at local farmers' markets. He truly enjoyed the people who bought from him. The markets were his fondest social time. He was the tomato man. His family and friends wish he could have stuck around longer but his body had other plans. He will be buried next to his father and mother, David and Fae Gaisford Kuper in Diller, Neb. as was his wish. He leaves behind his sister, Marlene Hendrick and her sons David Hendrick of Topeka and Dr. James Hendrick and family of Fort Collins, Co. and many family relations in Nebraska. And he would not want us to forget to mention his dogs and cats that never left his side when he was around. Visitation will be on Wednesday November 1st from 12 noon to 5:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Eversole Mortuary on Low Gap. On Thursday he will fly to Nebraska and be able to rest peacefully in the quiet countryside. Graveside services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2006 at the Priarie Home Cemetery, rural Diller, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doug's memory to the Raptor in Sitka, Alaska or a favorite charity. "Some bright morning, when this life is o'er, I'll fly away. To that home on God's celestial shore, I'll fly away." It's time to fly away, Douglas. Don't forget your Whyte Ladie.
