Description	:	He as born to Moritz Adelbert and Eva May Putney. His parents were among the first settlers in McCook County, arriving in 1878. Arthur was born at Canistota on Sept. 14, 1880. He spent his early childhood in the Canistota area, later they moved to Pierre where Arthur graduated from High School. His father was Assistant State Supt. of Public Instruction and later served as State Senator from Pennington County. Arthur graduated from Normal School in Fremont, Nebraska. He spent his early childhood in the Canistota area, later they moved to Pierre where Arthur graduated from High School. His father was Assistant State Supt. of Public Instruction and later served as State Senator from Pennington County. Arthur graduated from Normal School in Fremont, Nebraska. He later received his optometry eduacation at Stones College in St. Paul MN. He and his father ran Lange and Lange Jewlery Store in Rapid City SD in 1918 according to the City and County directory, the store was at 515 5th Street. Arthur lived at Hisega a community near Rapid City, his father lived at 925 Kansas City Street. When Arthur left Rapid Ciy he devoted his entire time to the practice of optometry. Arthur carried on a successful optmetry buisiness for forty years having offices in Rapid City, Mitchell and Winner South Dakota At one time he was captain of Co 2, Ist Regiment of the South Dakota National Guard. Arthur married Susie May Evans Nov 11, 1902 in Pierre, SD. Susie was born at State Center, Ia., on Oct 18, 1880. She died during childbirth at Canistota, SD, on June 27,, 1904. She is buried at the Canistota Cemetery. He married Mary "Mayme" Miles Simpson in 1905. They had three boys, Marion, Arthur M. Jr & Harry. They were divorced in 1930. In 1933 he married Elizabeth Mundhenk. Dr Arthur Lange died at his home in Winner on Oct. 29, 1940, following the break down of his health lasting over several months but unpercieved by his friends an associates until it began to take a heavy toll on his health, then his local physician suggested he go to Rochester MN ,where he was found that nothing could be done, and a heart aliment caused his demise within a short time after he returned to his home in Winner. He is buried in Decorah, Iowa.
