She was born in Wabash County, IN Nov. 1, 1922 to Paul and Oma (Fisher) Hathaway, both deceased. She was a 1940 graduate of Central High School, North Manchester; she attended and graduated from Indiana University in 1944. She was born in Wabash County, IN Nov. 1, 1922 to Paul and Oma (Fisher) Hathaway, both deceased. She was a 1940 graduate of Central High School, North Manchester; she attended and graduated from Indiana University in 1944. She taught fifth grade elementary for two years, then went to Indiana University Medical School and graduated in 1952. She was named to Alpha Omega Alpha, which was an Honorary Medical Fraternity. Dr. Hathaway served her residency in Radiology at the U.S. Public Health Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Later, she was given the Naval Rank of Captain of the U.S. Public Health Service; she was then the Chief of diagnostic X-Ray at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. After that, she was an advocate for medical patients. Survivors include brothers, Max Hathaway of Indianapolis and Ted Hathaway of Merrillville; and a sister, Shirley (Hathaway) Glade of North Manchester. Friends may call at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9th. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home Friday, Jan. 10, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Patricia Helman officiating. Burial will take place in Oaklawn Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Steuben County Humane Society.
