He was born June 29, 1917 in Marshall, Texas, the son of Bruce Herbert Donald Sr. and Gladys Patillo Donald of Marshall, Texas, both of whom are deceased. Also, preceding Dr. Donald in death was his daughter, Patillo Elizabeth Donald; his sister, Marian Donald Mills; and his two brothers, Francis Donald and Jack Bradshaw Donald. Read More	Dr. Bruce Herbert Donald, Jr., of Lexington, passed away Thursday, November 6, 1997, in Lexington. He was born June 29, 1917 in Marshall, Texas, the son of Bruce Herbert Donald Sr. and Gladys Patillo Donald of Marshall, Texas, both of whom are deceased. Also, preceding Dr. Donald in death was his daughter, Patillo Elizabeth Donald; his sister, Marian Donald Mills; and his two brothers, Francis Donald and Jack Bradshaw Donald. Immediate survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Crawford Donald; his granddaughter, Grace Patillo Cole; a niece, Jane D. Ellington and her husband, David Ellington; a nephew, Jack Bradshaw Donald Jr. and his wife, Connie; and three grandnephews, David and Peter Ellington and Scott Donald. Dr. Donald attended the Lexington Public Schools, Washington and Lee University and graduated from the Dental School of the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. In high school he played baseball and football under coaches C. C. Berkley and "Fess" Woodson. He delivered newspapers and worked at the Lyric and New (now State) theaters. In May, 1941, Dr. Donald's draft number (World War II) was the second number drawn. He received his basic training at Fort Meade, Md., where he earned $21 a month. He attended Officer Training School at Fort Benning, Ga. For his heroic actions during the bitter fight for Manila, Lt. Bruce Donald, 37th Infantry Division of the 148th Infantry Regiment, was awarded the Bronze Star medal. Before retiring as a Captain after five years of service, he received the Purple Heart, the Oak Leaf Cluster and a Presidential Citation. Upon graduating from dental school, Dr. Donald returned to practice dentistry in Lexington for 35 years. He began his practice in the Dold Building at the corner of Washington and Main Streets. In 1954, he moved his dental practice to the Rockbridge Professional Building. Dr. Donald was a member of the American and Virginia Dental Associations and served as President of the Shenandoah Valley Components. In Lexington, Dr. Donald was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, a past president of the Lexington Country Club, and a past member of the Rotary Club. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 1997, from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, Lexington, with Dr. William Klein officiating, with burial to follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lexington Lifesaving and First Aid Crew, P.O. Box 957, Lexington, Va. or the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, Va.
