Hogan, son of Patrick and Johanna Hogan, was born on a farm near Admah in Washington, county, August 19, 1871, and died at his home in this village on Tuesday July 4, 1905. He was one of thirteen children, only four of whom are now living – two girls and two boys. From boyhood he lived a busy life. He taught three years in the public schools of the state, and afterward was graduated from the Fremont Norma. He entered the Omaha Medical College of Omaha from which school he was graduated with honors in the spring of 1899, being second in a large class. After graduating he located at this place and began the practice of medicine which has steadily grown from the beginning till at the time of his illness his duties were too great and his ambitious nature pressed him on till his strong vitality was overtaxed, exposing his own life to the attacks of the enemy of health which he was so vigorously fighting. March 26, 1901, he was united in marriage with Miss Orilla Colby. Two children have blessed the union—Gerald aged three years and Olive aged one year. He was taken ill June 10, and thus in less than a month a strong, very useful man in the prime of his life is taken away. Too much cannot be said of one who lives the helpful, unpretentious life led by Dr. Hogan. He was a man on whom one could safely trust to do the best he could under all circumstances, and his death is deeply mourned not only by his relatives but by everyone who knew him. Four years ago he and his wife united with the Presbyterian church of this place, since which time he has been faithful to his duties, and at the time of his death he was superintendent of the Sunday School. He was a member of the I.O.O.F., A.O.U.W. A., and M.W.A. Lodges, the members of these lodges attending his funeral in a body. Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Thursday forenoon conducted by Rev. M. B. Kelly assisted by H.M. Moore, and the body was laid to rest in the Scotia cemetery by the side of other members of Mrs. Hogan's family.
