Frierson had been suddenly called from time into eternity by the accidental discharge of his gun at his home on West Benson street. About 12 o'clock that day, having just returned from the bedside of a sick patient, he was on the Court House Square mingling with friends and made an engagement with one of them to go hunting the next day, if the weather was favorable. After making this engagement he went to his home and immediately entered a storage room, on the second floor, where he kept his gun. Shortly afterwards his sister, Miss Janie Frierson, who was down stairs, directly under the storage room, heard the report of the gun and someone fall to the floor. She immediately ran up the stairs and, entering the room, found her brother lying on the floor and the gun at his feet. Her screams attracted the attention of Messrs. Finley and Drennan at McGee's livery stable and they rushed to the side of the unfortunate man, who was about gasping for his last breath. Other friends soon came in, and upon examination of the body a hole was found on the left side, just below the nipple and near the heart. The gun, which is a double-barrelled breech-loader, showed that he had been cleaning it. One of his hands was greasy, and some cotton waste and an oil rag were lying on the floor, but just how the terrible accident happened will never be known. Coroner Banister held an inquest, and after hearing the evidence the jury rendered a verdict that the "deceased came to his death from a gunshot fired by accident in his own hands." Dr. Frierson was the third son of the late Rev. D. E. Fierson, D. D., and was in the 44th year of his age. He was born in Marion County, S. C., and came to Anderson with his father about thirty years ago. He attended the schools of the city, and in his young manhood spent two years at Erskine College, Due West. Later he went on to Baltimore and graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons. He located in Abbeville County and practiced his profession for several years, when he returned to this city and has ever since made his home here. He married Miss Mattie Towers, a daughter of the late A. B. Towers, and she preceded him to the grave about eighteen months ago, leaving four little boys, who are now left to cherish the memory of a devoted father. Dr. Frierson had the advantage of religious training from infancy, and in his boyhood he joined the Presbyterian Church and lived a strictly moral life. He was a thorough gentleman, and possessing a most noble, genial disposition he was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends who will ever cherish his memory and who deeply sympathize with the brothers and sisters and four little boys in their sore breavement. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. J. L. McLin, assisted by Rev. Jas. Boyce, of Due West, after which the remains were interred in the Churchyard by the Woodmen of the World, of which he was an active member.
