Roadhouse, son of William John Roadhouse and Elizabeth Ann Cooper Roadhouse, was born Jan. 14, 1895, in Osborne County, Kansas. He was the oldest of five children. After completing his common schooling in Osborne County, he attended Kansas State at Manhattan and then went on to graduate from the University of St. Louis School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a life member of the American Dental Association. February 16, 1918, he enlisted to serve in World War I. He was discharged Jan. 2, 1919, a 1st Lt. in the Dental Corps. Until 1930 he was in the Officer Reserve Corps. Dr. Roadhouse came to Hoxie in the early 1920's to practice dentistry and throughout the years served a wide clientèle in this area until he retired about two years ago. For the past year he had been in failing health, and on Sunday, March 30, 1969, he passed away at the Sheridan County Hospital. Always an active member of the Hoxie community, Dr. Roadhouse served as mayor during the time the Hoxie Swimming Pool was built. He belonged to the Hoxie Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion, and was a charter member and past president of the Hoxie Rotary Club. An avid sportsman, Dr. Roadhouse loved the outdoors. Hunting and fishing gave him keen delight and many happy memories evolved around those activities. He leaves to morn his passing his widow, Aileene Mahanna Roadhouse of Hoxie; Max Roadhouse of Seattle, Wash, a son by his previous marriage to Margaret Reynolds who preceded him in death in 1949. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lorean Meadows of Osborne and Mrs. Lena Storer of Jackson, Mississippi; one brother, Ralph Roadhouse of Osborne; five step-children: Erma Holeman of Wichita; Hazel Shafer of San Bruno, Calif.; Joan Mahanna Mosier of Manhattan, Robert Mahanna and Dr. Gordon Mahanna, both of Hoxie; eighteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
