Description	:	Frederic Stearns, 33, of Osage died at a hospital in Mason City at 10 a.m. Thursday from injuries suffered in an automobile collision in which four others were injured a mile and a half east of Osage at 11:30 a. am. Wednesday. Dr. Stearns suffered head and chest injuries and was brought to the hospital here after first aid at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital at Osage. Supt. and Mrs. Lester B. Bredeson and two children of Little Cedar also were taken to the hospital at Osage, and later Mrs. Bredeson and son, William, 4, were taken to Mercy hospital.... Wednesday. Dr. Stearns suffered head and chest injuries and was brought to the hospital here after first aid at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital at Osage. Supt. and Mrs. Lester B. Bredeson and two children of Little Cedar also were taken to the hospital at Osage, and later Mrs. Bredeson and son, William, 4, were taken to Mercy hospital. Found Unconscious Highway patrolman said Stearns was unconscious when he arrived, and was lying in the ditch where he had been thrown from his car near the Bredeson car which was overturned. The Stearns car was crosswise of the road, and both vehicles were badly damaged. Dr. Stearns was a son of the late Fred and Sadie (Tupper) Stearns, prominent Osage family. He was graduated from Osage High School, Carleton college, Northfield, Minn., and the University of Iowa school of medicine and was interned at Oklahoma City, Okla. He took special training in obstetrics at Chicago and at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, Md. While in school he was prominent in athletics, but at Northfield, Minn., he suffered arthritis which made it necessary for him to return home to convalesce before he could resume his school work. Since that time he had been afflicted with arthritis. Dr. Stearns never married. He was prominent in community affairs, was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary club, the Sunny Brae Country Club and was active in tuberculosis and cancer campaigns. He is survived by a brother, William, of Battle Creek, Mich., and 3 sisters, Maizie Grace Stearns, Mrs. Claire French and Mrs. B. A. Bradford, all of Osage. At Osage he practiced in partnership with Drs. John and Merrill Eiel since 1946. Supt. Bredeson and daughter, Mary were dismissed from the Osage hospital and the other patients were reported doing nicely. [ Mason City Globe Gazette, Thursday, February 17, 1949 ]
