Jim was born on May 7, 1943 in Hicksville, OH, the son of Dr. Allen and Eloise (Countryman) Hilbert. He was a 1961 graduate of Hicksville High School. Read More	Dr. James Allen Hilbert, 67, of Hicksville, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday evening, November 25, 2010. Jim was born on May 7, 1943 in Hicksville, OH, the son of Dr. Allen and Eloise (Countryman) Hilbert. He was a 1961 graduate of Hicksville High School. James was united in marriage with Luci (Blasing) on August 7, 1965. Jim proudly served six years, 1964-1970, in the United States Navy aboard early nuclear submarines, the Argonaut and John Adams. He was named Outstanding Recruit of Company 261 at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA. Dr. Hilbert earned his doctorate degree from The Ohio State University – College of Optometry in 1975. He was a Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Student and was awarded the Bausch & Lomb Outstanding Achievement Award. Post-graduation, James returned to Hicksville to partner with his father. His dedication and care for his patients continued until his death. Dr. Jim was a Clinical Associate of the Optometric Extension Program Foundation and an active participant in the Behavioral Vision Project. To Jim, vision is the ability to organize and understand what we see. He brought a practical attitude and steady gentle hand to his work. Through vision therapy, he wanted his patients to use their vision to guide them through life. Jim always had a strong sense of pride for Hicksville and loved being an active member of the community. He was a member of the Ohio Optometric Association, Rotary International (past President of the Hicksville Rotary Club and involved in the Student Exchange Program), Vice President of the Hicksville Development Corporation, Hickory Hills Golf League, Township Zoning Board, and St. Michaels Catholic Church. He had a passion for sailing, tinkering, and a love for the outdoors. Jim always strived to do his best in all “projects,” large or small. Jim is survived by his wife, Luci, father Allen, daughter Lauri Turnbull, and son Scott, all of Hicksville; one sister, Linda Grow, two grandsons Tyler Turnbull and Stuart Turnbull,. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eloise. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, OH with a wake service at 8:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hicksville. Burial will be in Lost Creek Cemetery.
