Clapp, who had been spending the winter with them in Arizona. They were taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Jones, 509 Monona Street. They lay in state Sunday forenoon from 9:00 o'clock until 12:00 o'clock and were viewed by many friends of the deceased. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Mason, assisted by the Rev. Houser, pastor of the Christian Church, and attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. Many beautiful floral tributes attested the general esteem of all who know him. The remains were laid to rest in East Linwood. James Frank Jones was born on a farm near Ontario, Nov. 2, 1870 where he grew to young manhood and attended the public schools, at the age of eighteen he entered the Iowa Agricultural College at Ames, from which he graduated in 1892. He then taught school and worked in a drug store for two years and then entered the State University at Iowa City where he remained for two years. He then went to Omaha and entered the Omaha Medical College, where he completed the study of medicine and was admitted to the practice. While in school at Omaha he was associated with one of the professors of the college who was also an assistant surgeon of the Union Pacific Railway Company, and was given opportunities for practice in all the hospitals of Omaha. After graduating there, he went in Fargo, North Dakota and engaged in the practice by himself and where he was a highly successful practitioner. There, on May 27, 1901 he was united in marriage with Miss Mamie Clapp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Clapp, former well known residents of this city. To them was born one son, who died in infancy. The northern winters becoming too severe for him in March, 1903 he removed to Phoenix Arizona and in May of the same year located at Wickenberg, where he took up his practice again and also conducted a drug store. He soon established a highly successful and profitable practice there and was appointed assistant surgeon of the Santa Fe Railway, which he held until his death. He and his wife spent their summers in Denver on account of the excessive heat in Arizona, returning in the change, until last September when he began to fail and was obliged to give up his practice for rest. He failed gradually until March 3rd, when he was forced to take to his bed and then sank rapidly until the end came. He leaves to mourn his untimely death his widow, parents and three brothers, T. L. Jones of Boone , E.W. Jones of Crookston, Minn. and W.G. Jones of Chicago, all of who were present at the funeral Sunday with many other relatives and friends from a distance, and to whom is extended the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
