WOODMANSEE DIES Emporia Doctor Had Been Sick Since June 12 - The Funeral Friday Dr. John Austin Woodmansee, 1509 West, who has had his office in The Gazette building, died this morning at 8:30 in the Newman Memorial County hospital. Dr. Woodmansee had been sick since June 12. Death was caused by heart disease. Dr. Woodmansee had practiced medicine in Emporia for 13 years. Funeral Servcies will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Woodmansee home, 1509 West. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Born in Americus. John Austin Woodmansee was born September 6, 1884, in Americus. He was the son of Mrs. Grace Woodmansee, of Americus, and the late Jesse Woodmansee. John Woodmansee taught school for six years at the Fruitland district, Bushong and the Neosho Rapids High school. He was graduated from the University Medical college of Kansas City, Mo., in 1912and practiced medicine for a time in Dunlap. He then went to California in 1923, where he took special training in pediatrics at the University of California at Berkeley, He came to Emporia in 1924. Recently, Dr. Woodmansee has shared an office with Dr. J.M. Gorman, dentist. Dr. Woodmansee married Hazel Butler on December 25, 1906, in Americus. He was a member of the First Methodist church. Dr. Woodmansee became chief of the medical staff at St.Mary's hospital following the death of the late Dr. J. B. Brickell, which capacity he filled until recently. Dr. Woodmansee also was a member of several special committees at the Newman Memorial County hospital, and had been on the faculty for nurses' training at the hospital. Dr. Woodmansee is survived by his widow, Mrs. Hazel Woodmansee, a daughter, Margaret Mary Woodmansee, who was graduated from the Teachers College this year and will teach school in Tonganoxie this fall, and his mother, Mrs. Grace Woodmansee, of Americus.
