Brayman in Topeka, Kansas, this morning at 4:00 a.m. He had been in poor health for the past two years, but this condition did not become serious until about two months ago. He was well known Marshall county physician having practiced in Vermillion for many years. He took an active interest in the affairs of his home community and the county, and served as County Health Officer for several years. Besides his daughter Mrs. E.E. Brayman he is also survived by one son, John P. Clifton, of Sharon, Pennsylvania. Funeral services were held at the Meth- odist church in Vermillion, Kansas on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in the Vermillion Cemetery, Vermillion, Kansas. The Vermillion Times Thursday, January 19, 1939 Dr. John Clifton was born in Illinois on October 20, 1864, and passed away in Toepka, Kansas on January 16,1939 at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 26 days. He was married to Rose Bailey at Akron, Indiana on January 2, 1889, and to this union was born four children, Archie Allen, Beatrice, John Paul and Jessie Lucile. He came to Vermillion Kansas about 40 years ago and engaged in the practice of medicine. During the time since he has went in and out of many homes of the community administering to the needs of the sick and afflicted in a kind and generous manner. No night was to dark nor storm to severe for him to answer the call of the sick, and at times there would be days that he did not have his clothes off, on account of the demand for his care. His wife, one son and one daughter preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter Mrs. E.E. Brayman of Topeka, Kansas, a son John P. Clifton, Sharon, Pennsylvania five grandchildren and other relatives. Dr. Clifton has been in poor health for a couple years but failed fast during the past few months. He was in the Axtell Hospital for several weeks after which he went to the home of his daughter in Topeak, where he spent the remaining days of his life. He was interested in local affairs especially our schools, of which he served as president of the board for several years. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Vermillion on Wednesday with Reverend H.M. Sanders officiating, and burial was in the Vermillion Cemetery.
