His parents Elijah and Catherine Glover, settled at or near Portsmouth near the year 1798, and here it was that the subject of this notice was born around 1800, the following named brothers and sisters being born after him: Elijah Glover, Samuel Glover, Miss E. B. Glover and Mrs. A. M. Kendall. He married Miss Eliza Nourse at French Grant, this county, about 1836. She still survives him as well as the four children born to them, Mrs. Cora Lyle, Mrs. Ann Stout and Mr. Eli B. Glover, who reside in Nebraska, and Mrs. Kate McIlvaine, of West Liberty, Ohio. Mr. Glover went West about 1855, but will be remembered by many as a former prominent citizen of Portsmouth and Scioto county. He studied medicne but after being admitted to practice, the profession was so distasteful to him he gave it up for other pursuits. Associated with the late Jacob P. Noel and others, he built the Front Street Rolling Mill, now known as the Gaylord Mill. This enterprise was begun in 1831 and was not completed and in running order until 1833. He was several times elected to the State Legislature and Senate and was given at one time quite an ovation for having had passed the bill changing the course of canal from the West side of the Scioto river to the East side; but afterwards a serious error was made in changing it back. For many years previous to leaving Portsmouth he was engaged in the manufacture and sale of hats, and became extensively known throughout Northeastern Kentucky and part of Virginia by the purchase of raw furs from the settlers. He was sorely afflicted the last few years of his life, having lost his eyesight, but having learned to love his Saviour, this, with his sunshiny disposition, came to his aid and through all his affliction he murmured not.
