Spohn, son of Adam and Angeline Spohn, was born in Keokuk, Iowa, on April 17, 1855, and departed this life in Omaha, Nebraska, August 27, 1954, at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 10 days. He attended rural schools and Troy Academy in Iowa. He graduated from Keokuk Medical College, a branch of the State University of Iowa, in 1891. Spohn, son of Adam and Angeline Spohn, was born in Keokuk, Iowa, on April 17, 1855, and departed this life in Omaha, Nebraska, August 27, 1954, at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 10 days. He attended rural schools and Troy Academy in Iowa. He graduated from Keokuk Medical College, a branch of the State University of Iowa, in 1891. He also attended the Rush Medical Clinic, the West Side Post Graduate School and the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Chicago. From time to time he took long periods of post graduate training at Cook County Hospital and additional studies at the above institutions in the Medical Center in Chicago. He was united in marriage to Joan B. McMains, July 4, 1878, at Bloomfield, Iowa, where he farmed and taught school. To this union two children were born, both of whom are deceased. Clara Ethel was born on January 12, 1888 in Floris, Dais County,Iow, and died and died March 11, 1930 in Chester, Nebraska. James Lloyd was born on April 17, 1890 in Iowa and died August 20, 1890 in Iowa. His wife, Johanna (Joan), died on May 16, 1890 in Bloomfield, Iowa. On April 1, 1894, Dr. Spohn was united in marriage to Lida E. McCuistion at Bloomfield, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Beulah, Berenice and Hubert. His wife, Lida, preceded him in death in 1933. Dr. Spohn practiced for a few years in West Grove, Iowa, coming to Chester in 1897, where he continued his practice until his retirement in 1949. Since then he has lived at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Berenice Wagor of Hebron. He was a member of the Methodist church, and was a devout and faithful member. He leaves to mourn his passing his three children: Mrs. Beulah Evans of Omaha, Mrs. Berenice Wagor of Hebron, and Hubert Spohn of Chester; six grandchildren: Mrs. Vernelle Bernstein of Chicago, Mrs. Naomi Faye Krass of Philadelphia, Mrs. JoAnne Meinen of Omaha, Mrs. Donna Lee Bachenberg and Ramona Spohn of Beatrice, Nebr., and Marion W. Spohn of San Diego, Calif.; eight great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. He was a kindly man and a friend to all, never turning anyone away in time of need. He was most appreciative of anything that was done for him, and always had a keen sense of humor. His entire life was one dedicated to the service of humanity -- his two interests being the study of the Bible and his study of medicine. Funeral services were held at the Chester Methodist Church on Monday afternoon, Aug. 30, with Rev. Frank Bartelson (NOTE: the following is typed as written in the newspaper) tet, Mrs. Howard Reed, Mrs. officiating. Music was a quar Melvin Crouse (NOTE: end typed as written) Max Larkins and Duey VanCleef, accompanied by Mrs. Floyd Haifleigh. Pallbearers were Ralph Wilson, Fred Duey, Jack Brumbaugh, Lloyd Thomas and Emil Bohling of Chester, and Jack Chapman of Hebron. Internment was in the Chester Cemetery.
