Read More	Former local Veterinarian buried Sunday in River View Cemetery. Services at Baptist Church. Mrs. O. C. Sheppard arrived here Friday, accompanying the body of her husband. Dr. O. C. Sheppard who died in their home at Hot Springs, AR, March 24, 1931. Dr. Sheppard had been in failing health for a number of years, part of the time being compelled to sit in a wheel chair and unable to help himself in any way. He suffered several paralytic strokes which were the final cause of his passing. He was well know in the vicinity of Centerville, where he had lived since 1902 and engaged in the practice of his profession. To the funeral services, held in the Baptist church Sunday, with Rev. John Jensen, pastor officiating, came many of the former friends of the family , filling the church to capacity. Many, too, were the floral offerings sent by the friends who will miss the genial man from this world. Dr. O. C. Sheppard was born in [Morgan Co] IL 13 Dec 1857. Here he grew to manhood and in 1877 he was married to Mary OWEN (sic). To this union came twelve children of whom three died in infancy. In 1892, Dr. and Mrs. Sheppard moved to Chicago where he was graduated as a veterinarian. After practicing for several years, they moved to Montreal, Canada, and there he took a post-graduate course at the University of Montreal. About 1902 they came with the family to Centerville, SD, and here he practiced for nearly twenty-five years. In 1912 Dr. Sheppard married again and Mrs. Agnes Sheppard is well known to all the residents of this city and vicinity. During the years of his last illness, Mrs. Sheppard bore the burden of his care. Five years ago they moved to Hot Springs [Garland Co] AR, thinking to better his health, but with little success. Besides the widow, near relatives who survive are the nine children of the first marriage, Mrs. John Henry (Elsie Stella) of Jacksonville, IL; Mrs. J. (sic) Lewis (Avis Lela) of Weaver, IA; Mrs. John Large (Alma Jane) of Loami, IL; Everett Sheppard of Jacksonville, IL; George E. (Sic) {Elmer George} Sheppard of Salem, SD; Earl Sheppard of Galesburg, IL; and Loranze (sic) {Loren Ernest} Sheppard of Riverside, CA. There are also forty grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
