Casterline was born at Sparland, Ill., December 29, 1872, and died at Edgar, Neb., March 8, 1922, at 4:15 p.m. He moved with his parents to Edgar, Neb., in 1877. He graduated from the Edgar High School in 1892, then went to Creighton Medical College from which he graduated in 1895. He was married to Miss Rose Rooney on August 13, 1895, and to this union was born one son, Clyde R. Casterlline, who survives him. Dr Casterline was converted and united with the Presbyterian Church at the time of the McConnell meetings some years ago. He was associated with his father in the practice of medicine until his health failed, then he associated himself with his father in the newspaper business. After his father's death, he was editor of the Edgar Sun and remained such until his failing health compelled him to give up the active work. The doctor had been confined to the house since the latter part of December and during this time he had been a great sufferer until the end came. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and son, his aged mother, Mrs. Rachel Casterline, with whom he and his family have been living, his sister, Mrs. Mellie Cottle of Edgar, his brother, Frank J. Casterline of Tipton, Ia., besides other relatives and a host of friends. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved ones in their deep sorrow. The funeral was conducted at the home on Thursday afternoon, March 9, at three o'clock by Rev W. C. Brewer, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. A quartet, Mrs. E. P. King, Mrs. W. J. Breckenridge, J. G. Walley and C. S. Voorhees, sang those hymns of hope and comfort; "Some Day We'll Understand," "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Abide With Me." The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Edgar/ Way back in the years when Edgar was a small village of six or seven homes was when I first knew him as children of the same school. He was a bright, studious boy, fond of innocent pleasure, and a friend of all, regardless of their station in life. As school days passed and he grew to manhood, he took up the study of medicine. As a physician he was kind and sympathetic and had his health permitted would have been one of the leading physicians of our city. Those who knew him best never heard him speak an unkind word or say an unkind thing of anyone and he always tried to magnify the good qualities of his friends and forget all else. During his last sickness he was patient and bore his suffering as one sure of his reward when life's trials were finished. There is no death, the stars go down To rise upon some fairer shore And bright in heaven's jeweled crown They shine forevermore. To died right, we must live right, For to die is to live anew, And the heaven you make is the heaven you take In the world just beyond with you. The rest will be a reality, Not a harp and a lull of song, But a work of love in the realm above To help mankind along. And ever near us tho unseen The dear immortal spirits tread, For all the boundless universe Is Life--there are no dead.
