Description	:	Dr. Boyer began practicing medicine in Summerfield, Kansas in 1894. He stayed there for five years, and then moved to Illinois before coming to Pawnee City in 1903. He carried on an active practice that extended for miles in every direction, and later established a hospital that was later sold to the county in 1947. Dr. Boyer retired the same year. Dr. Boyer delivered 1,056 babies over his time as a physician. Pawnee City celebrated with a "Dr. Boyer Day" on Sept. 23, 1956. He was the organizer of the first Pawnee City high school band, and took an active part in the county fair, besides the many other things he did. (From Sept. 6, 1956 Pawnee Republican) ******************************************************************************************************** 1956- 50 years ago Following the pattern of one of television's popular programs, "This is Your Life", the life of Dr. Boyer, Pawnee City's beloved physician and surgeon, was portrayed by incidents in his rich, full life to hundreds of his friends at a special day held Sunday, Sept. 23. In 1903 Dr. Boyer came to Pawnee City and 13 years later purchased the Shannon Hotel and converted it into a hospital where he and other Pawnee City physicians carried on their medical work until 1947 when he sold it to the county. That same year he retired from active practice. (From the Pawnee Republican Sept. 28, 2006.) Son of John & Mary Leah Howard Boyer. Married to Effie M. Smith on Dec. 16, 1896 at Freeport, IL. Funeral services were held for Dr. W. B. Boyer, retired Pawnee City Physician on Friday, Dec. 6 from the Methodist church in Pawnee City with Rev. R. N. Lingard officiating. Dr. Boyer was 92 years of age. On Sept. 23, 1956 the community honored him and Ms. Boyer with "Dr. Boyer Day". He had practice for 50 years. He started the first Pawnee City High School band, buying the uniforms and many of the instruments out of his own pocket. He was active in civic affairs, leading a re-forestation program when many trees were killed about 22 years ago. He founded the first hospital in Pawnee City.
