So when the parents are located somewhere between southern California and Washington they will be shocked to hear of Drew's death which occurred at the hospital Monday evening, July 13. Funeral arrangements await word from the parents (Posted online by volunteer, Connie Street.) ********************************* Obituary of Drew Small Drew Small was born March 27, 1886, near Birmingham, Iowa, and passed from this life at the Jefferson County hospital at Fairfield, on the evening of Monday, July 13, 1925, having lived 39 years, 3 months and 16 days all of which time was spent near Birmingham, except five years of his early childhood, which was passed at Anaconda, Montana. He had not been in robust health for some time, but on July 2nd he became seriously ill, and on July 6, was taken to the Fairfield hospital where surgeons performed an operation for appendicitis. This was apparently successful, but later complications developed and he passed away just one week after he had entered the hospital. His brother Loy was his constant attendant in his illness, as his parents were visiting in California and did not get word of his sickness and death until Monday the 20th, when they received the shocking tidings at Reno, Nevada. Drew leaves his sorrowing family, father, mother and brother Loy, to mourn his departure. One brother Everette, died in childhood. He has a host of friends and relatives who will keenly miss him. Early in life Drew was converted to Christianity and he lived a clean, conscientious, Christian life. He was industrious and took great plesure(sp) in his home and in his work. Quietly and fearlessly he walked the straight and narrow way. We, his friends, can sincerely say: "He has fought a good flight, he has finished his course, he has kept the faith." The funeral service was held in the Presbyterian church on Friday afternoon, the 24th, at 2:30, being in charge of Rev. Poe, assisted by Rev. L.V. Nash. Two pleasing duets were rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Williams, cousins of the departed, and a solo by Hovey Hootman, an uncle. Interment was in the Maple Hill cemetery. Source: Van Buren Co.
