Description	:	Mr. Segrist served in the Strategic Air Command of the U.S. Air Force for 28 years, retiring as Chief Master Sgt. in 1978. He later was in banking and worked with the Department of Navy for 10 years. He was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Avoca, the son of John David and Inez Armstrong Segrist. He graduated from Soldier High School in 1948. He had lived in Riverside, Calif., before moving to Holton in 1988. Mr. Segrist was a life member of VFW Post #8547 in Moreno Valley, Calif., the U.S. Air Force Sgts. Association Chapter 974, The Eagles Aerie #3417 and Elks Lodge, all in Topeka, the Mary L. Bair Post #44 of the American Legion in Holton, Retired Enlisted Association and SAC Airborne Command Control Association. He married Shirley V. Hill on Nov. 24, 1954, in Grandfield, Okla. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Steffanie R. Orman, Riverton, Utah; two brothers, Galen Segrist, Topeka, and Freddie H. Segrist, Berryton; four sisters, Virginia Nelson, Whiting, Regina Heckman, Andice, Texas, Donna K. Murrow, Denison, and Mona McManigal, Holton; and two granddaughters. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be at Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holton Hospital Hospice or the Center For Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University and sent in care of the funeral home.
