She was born Aug 15, 1913, in Circleville, the daughter of Hayes Morgan and Gertrude Perry Armstrong, and attended Oak Grove and Circleville Schools. She lived in the Soldier and Avoca communities before she moved to Holton in 1948. She was born Aug 15, 1913, in Circleville, the daughter of Hayes Morgan and Gertrude Perry Armstrong, and attended Oak Grove and Circleville Schools. She lived in the Soldier and Avoca communities before she moved to Holton in 1948. Mrs. Segrist was a cook at Soldier schools and had been a telephone operator and a clerk at Siggs Grocery in Soldier. She later was a cook at restaurants in Holton and owned and operated Jack’s Tavern in Holton from 1953 to 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign War, Pleasant Valley Neighbors and the Ogilvie-Durham Circle, all in Holton. She was married to John David “Jack” Segrist June 13, 1928, in Topeka. He died April 30, 1980. A son, Warren Dean Segrist, died Jan. 27, 1981. Survivors include three sons, Duane Segrist, Holton, Galen Segrist Topeka, and Freddie Segrist, Berryton; four daughters, Virginia Nelson, Hiawatha, Regina Heckman, Round Rock, Texas, and Donna Keithline and Mona McManigal, both in Holton; two sisters, Ruby Brown, Circleville, and Vivian Hickman, Albany, Oregon; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to Holton Hospital Building Fund and sent in care of Denison State Bank in Holton, 66436.
