Description	:	Duane was born on February 29, 1924, in Horton, Iowa, the son of Claude E. and Mamie F. (Kratchmer) Wylam. Duane was baptized in Waverly, and attended the Waverly School System, graduating in 1941 from the Waverly High School. Following his schooling, Duane worked as a farm hand in Greene, Iowa, for Carl Schwenneker until May 3, 1944, when he entered the U.S. Navy Air force. Duane was baptized in Waverly, and attended the Waverly School System, graduating in 1941 from the Waverly High School. Following his schooling, Duane worked as a farm hand in Greene, Iowa, for Carl Schwenneker until May 3, 1944, when he entered the U.S. Navy Air force. Duane was honorably discharged on June 17, 1946, with the rank of Aviation Radioman Third Class. On June 27, 1946, Duane was united in marriage to Burneile Grace Miller in Greene, Iowa. The couple made their home in Waverly. In December of 1947, the couple moved north of Waverly on Bremer Road, where they ran Wylamyna Holstein Farm for 60 years raising purebred Holsteins and producing grade A milk. Duane always had a second job while farming. These included Schield Bantam as a welder, Hinson Manufacturing and Henke Manufacturing. In November of 2007, the couple moved to the Cedar Falls Western Home. Burneile died on January 31, 2008, and Duane continued to live at the Cedar Falls Western Home. Duane was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. He served as Commander of local and District Amvets, as leader of 4-H Club for 25 years, Meals on Wheels, and he was on the Board of Directors of Holstein and Mills Association. Duane was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed attending his grandchildren's athletic and music events and working on his computer. Duane Elwyn Wylam, 87, of the Cedar Falls Western Home and formerly of Waverly, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at the Cedar Falls Western Home following complications of cancer. Duane is survived by his six children and their spouses; Lynda (Ray) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Steven Wylam of Shell Rock, Dennis (Sharon) Wylam of Salem, Missouri, David (Cathy) Wylam of Waverly, Joyce (Larry) Kurtz of Waverly and Barbara (Wes) Gielau of Denver; thirteen grandchildren, Chris Black, Sean Smith, Justin (Kira) Wylam, Daniel (Lisa) Wylam, Ross Burgart, Brad Wylam, Nathan Kurtz, Joseph Kurtz, Sarah Kurtz, Adam Gielau, Jacquelyn Gielau, Rachel Gielau, and Emily Gielau; one great-grandchild, Mitchell Black; two sisters, Davidene Litterer of Waverly and Jean Jones of Nevada, Iowa. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, LaVerne Wylam, and brother-in-laws, Harold Litterer and Bob Jones. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 23rd, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Pastor Deborah Coble Wise officiating. Burial: Harlington Cemetery in Waverly with the Waverly Amvets giving honors. Public visitation: Sunday, January 22nd from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
