Description	:	Dwane "Cloddy" Clodfelter passed away on Sunday April 23, 2006 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. "Cloddy" was born July 17, 1918 in Woonsocket, SD, the son of Matthew and Hannah (Knutson) Clodfelter. He was united in marriage to Carol Grangaard on November 15, 1940, in Tekamah, NE. Read More	Dwane "Cloddy" Clodfelter passed away on Sunday April 23, 2006 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. "Cloddy" was born July 17, 1918 in Woonsocket, SD, the son of Matthew and Hannah (Knutson) Clodfelter. He was united in marriage to Carol Grangaard on November 15, 1940, in Tekamah, NE. "Cloddy" was a legend in the State of South Dakota as a high school and college basketball coach. He became Head Coach at USD in 1954. He had an unparalleled record while at USD. Some of his more memorable accomplishments s at USD were the National Playoffs in 1954; National Championship, 1958; the State record for 34 consecutive home wins from 1956-1959 with a total 32-3 record in NCC league games. He coached the USD Coyote teams to two NCC crowns with an overall 89-67 career record. While coaching at USD, "Cloddy" was on the National College Coaches Rules Committee where he "rubbed shoulders" and exchanged ideas with legendary coaches such as Adolph Rupp of Kentucky, Hank Iba of The Oklahoma Aggies, Bud Foster of Wisconsin, John Wooden of U.C.L.A. and others. He was proud of the fact that he was a close personal friend of the legendary Hank Iba of The Oklahoma Aggies. "Cloddy" was inducted into numerous Halls of Fame including the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame, South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame, NCC Honor Hall, the South Dakota Sportwriters Hall of Fame, Huron Hall of Fame and others. When "Cloddy" retired from coaching basketball he took up teaching golf as a vocation. He directed annual seminars for golfers in Vermillion and elsewhere while he was actively teaching golf. "Cloddy" was an avid pheasant, duck, and goose hunter and fisherman. The Dwane Clodfelter Scholarship is a scholarship in his name in the USD Foundation which was started by his former players. Of all of his accomplishments, this is the one that he cherished the most. He was a participant in the first Clodfelter Scholarship Hunt in October of 2005 hosted by Jack Theeler, one of his former players. He also was the guest of honor at an event at a Phoenix Suns vs Portland Trail Blazers basketball game in Phoenix, Arizona on March 23, 2006, hosted in the luxury box suite of Jim Dyer, one of his former players. "Cloddy" is survived by his wife Carol Clodfelter of Vermillion, two daughters, Claudia (Sam) Killinger of Sioux City, IA, and Linda (Bob) Noyes of Parker, CO, and two sons Dean (Patti) Clodfelter of Pierre, SD, and Kim (Renee) Clodfelter of Madison, WI. . He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, Lt. Colonel Thomas Fisher, Richard Fisher, Jill Zook, Dean Clodfelter Jr. Becky Hunter, Kim de Hueck, Jennifer de Hueck, Adam de Hueck, Jeff Jarvis, Sarah McCollum, Karrie Corley, Katie Noyes, Rachel Clodfelter Matthew Clodfelter and Joseph Clodfelter, seventeen great grandchildren, and a brother Gordon Clodfelter of Kodiak, AK, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Norman "Zip" and Wally Clodfelter. Burial in Bluff View Cemetery, Vermillion. Arrangements by Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
