Read More	Information from death certificate: Single Adams County Free Press August 1, 1940 - page 1 Brown Dies At Creston After Wreck Loses Control of Car on South Carl Road Machine Turns Over Earl Brown, 29, whose home is near the Zion community in Adair county, but who has been employed on the James Eno farm, 15 miles northeast of Corning, died in a Creston hospital at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, following injuries received when his car went into a ditch on the road south of Carl early Monday evening. The slippery condition of the road following the rain caused Brown to lose control of the car, which went into the ditch head first and then turned completely over. Brown's right hand was pinned under the car and it was with considerable difficulty he finally released himself. He walked through the mud and rain to the Clarence Dillon home at the edge of Carl. Dillon and Glen Schmuck brought the injured man to a Corning physician. Nearly all of the back part of his right hand was cut away in the accident, leaving the bones and ligaments of the hand exposed. Also the bones in the wrist were crushed. He was given first aid treatment and then sent to the hospital. According to hospital physicians, Brown was injured internally, as well as having the badly torn and broken hand. Exposure and over-exertion in going for help following the accident were probably also contributory causes to his death. The deceased is a son of Mrs. Thomas Brown of Adair county. occupation: C.C.C.
