Description	:	Earnest Paul Dunn, son of Robert H. Dunn and Nora M. Whetzel Dunn, was born in Rulo, NE, on June 10, 1926. Earnest passed away on March 1, 1997 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron, NE, at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Read More	Earnest Paul Dunn, son of Robert H. Dunn and Nora M. Whetzel Dunn, was born in Rulo, NE, on June 10, 1926. Earnest passed away on March 1, 1997 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron, NE, at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 19 days. As a boy, Earnie worked to help support his family by mowing lawns, raking yards, delivering newspapers, and doing general errands. His family moved several times during his childhood, but he managed to stay in school and graduated from Rulo High School in 1944. Earnie was inducted into the U.S. Army on October 31, 1944 and was stationed in Texas and Korea before being honorably discharged in April 1946 to help care for his terminally ill mother. After his mother's death he worked at various jobs. On July 7, 1950, Earnie was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Woodside. To this union three children were born, Patricia, Janet, and Linda. On January 1, 1957, Earnie and Peggy moved to Chester, NE, after living in Omaha, NE for five years. It was then that the business Dunn Painting & Decorating was formed. They operated the business out of their garage in south Chester until April of 1969 when they purchased the Dr. George Veterinary Clinic building. In the fall of 1982 they moved the business to a new building just north of their home in Chester. They operated the business in this location until December of 1995 when they sold the business due to Earnie's failing health. Over the years, Earnie enjoyed working with many good workers and hundreds of customers. Earnie was known for his quality workmanship, honesty, and integrity. On the lighter side, he enjoyed telling stories and playing harmless pranks on his friends and family whom he cherished. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring wooden windmills and Maytag gas powered washers. Earnie was a member of the Community Bible Church, Chester, and the State Line Post American Legion, Hubbell. He was a past member of the Chester Masonic Lodge #278 AF&AM, a past member of the Chester Community Club, and a past member of the Chester Public School Board of Education. Earnie was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nora Dunn; his wife, Peggy A. Dunn; one daughter, Patricia McGhghy; four brothers, and one infant sister. He is survived by two daughters, Janet Dingman and her husband, David, Bennet, NE, and Linda Dunn, Seattle, WA; son-in-law, Gary McGhghy and wife Sue, Deshler; five grandchildren, Andrew, Thomas and Kaylie McGhghy and Kelsey and Matthew Dingman; two brothers, Mark Dunn and wife Katherine, Ethan, SD, and Robert E. Dunn and wife Mary Jean, Falls City, NE; two sisters, Marie Johnson, Dover, DE, and Helen Judd and husband Arthur, Dover, DE; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 6, 1997, 2:00 p.m. at the Community Bible Church, Chester, conducted by Pastor Ray Berry and Pastor T.J. Fraser. Organist was Mary Riggs and singers were Irene Long and Pauline Frye. Casket bearers were Douglas Kramer, Steve Spitler, Gary McGhghy, Stanley Schleifer, Wesley Schleifer and David Dingman. Honorary casket bearers were Clarence Jay Gould, Kenneth Eggers, Dean Walker, Robert Didde, Reuben Schleifer and Wilbert Crouse. Interment was made in the Chester Cemetery, Chester, NE. The family suggests memorials to the Community Bible Church, Chester, the Chester Fire & Rescue Squad, Thayer County Memorial Hospital or Cerebral Palsy Research.
