Mr. Miller was born in 1832 in Germany, and there spent his early years and acquired whatever schooling available. In 1851 he migrated with his parents to Freeport, IL. there making his first home. Mrs. Miller, (Ida Bahning) previous to her marriage, was also born in Germany in 1842, and came to the United States when she was but 14 years of age. Read More	Mr. and Mrs. Juren Miller are included in the familiar pioneers that settled southwest of Lennox. Mr. Miller was born in 1832 in Germany, and there spent his early years and acquired whatever schooling available. In 1851 he migrated with his parents to Freeport, IL. there making his first home. Mrs. Miller, (Ida Bahning) previous to her marriage, was also born in Germany in 1842, and came to the United States when she was but 14 years of age. Enroute across the Atlantic, the ocean voyage required 13 weeks. This couple was married at Freeport in 1860, and continued to reside in that vicinity for approximately eight years. In 1868 they renewed their westward trek and settled in Grundy county, la. Here the couple made their residence for 13 years, and in 1881 moved into Dakota Territory, locating six miles southwest of Lennox in Turner County. Mrs. Miller died in 1904. In 1906 Mr. Miller took up his residence in Lennox where he spent the remaining two years of his life. He passed away in 1908. Thirteen children were born to this union. The eight sons and five daughters were as follows: Al J., (a former postmaster of Lennox), Minnie and Bertha, who were born near Freeport; Joe, Bert, Martin, Hannah, Andrew and Helmer, born in Grundy County, Iowa, and Rena, William, Eiko and Anna born here. Three have passed away, Al J., Bertha and Bert. The following is a copy of the first page of a Miller family record that was maintained by Jenola Cramer Mundhenke. Ecke Bohning (pronounced I-Key) cmae to this country at the age of 14, from Holland. She was born November 23, 1842 in Holland. She came with her parents, Joe and Wilhelmina Bohning. the Dutch spelling looked something like this, "Greau and Vilhelmemeo Bohning". It helps if you can say Joe in Plat Duetch. Some one thought grandfather Bohings name was George but both Aunt Jurena and Mom said it was Joe. Her mother, Wilhelmina Bohning, died and was buried at sea. The voyage took 13 weeks. Mother always said her grandfather lived with them till his death, and that he lived to a ripe old age. Another family thinks the old man that lived with them was an uncle, Ecke's brother. Another family says the old man that lived with them was not relative at all, just some one from Holland that stayed with Ecke and Jurend and lived to be 97 years old.
