Mr. Miller was born in 1832 in Germany, and there spent his early years and acquired whatever schooling available. In 1851 he migrated with his parents to Freeport, IL. there making his first home. Read More	Mr. and Mrs. Juren Miller are included in the familiar pioneers that settled southwest of Lennox. Mr. Miller was born in 1832 in Germany, and there spent his early years and acquired whatever schooling available. In 1851 he migrated with his parents to Freeport, IL. there making his first home. Mrs. Miller, (Ida Bahning) previous to her marriage, was also born in Germany in 1842, and came to the United States when she was but 14 years of age. Enroute across the Atlantic, the ocean voyage required 13 weeks. This couple was married at Freeport in 1860, and continued to reside in that vicinity for approximately eight years. In 1868 they renewed their westward trek and settled in Grundy county, la. Here the couple made their residence for 13 years, and in 1881 moved into Dakota Territory, locating six miles southwest of Lennox in Turner County. Mrs. Miller died in 1904. In 1906 Mr. Miller took up his residence in Lennox where he spent the remaining two years of his life. He passed away in 1908. Thirteen children were born to this union. The eight sons and five daughters were as follows: Al J., (a former postmaster of Lennox), Minnie and Bertha, who were born near Freeport; Joe, Bert, Martin, Hannah, Andrew and Helmer, born in Grundy County, Iowa, and Rena, William, Eiko and Anna born here. Three have passed away, Al J., Bertha and Bert. The following is a copy of the first page of a Miller family record that was maintained by Jenola Cramer Mundhenke. Jurend Miller, son of Ailt and Albertha Klut Miller was born on January 24, 1832 in Germany. The "Miller" name received this spelling sometimes along the line in the United States. In German it was spelled Mueller. But we have always written "Miller", and I will leave it that way. Jurend (Jerry) came to the United States in 1851, with his brother Martain. None of the rest of the family came from Germany. Evidently, the boys stayed together because Martin, married, and he and Aunt Lena, in the last years, lived in Lennox and died there. No children. Both Delmar and I remember going over to "Lena Tant's" (she lived right south of us in Lennox) and talking to her in broken English and half "Plat duetch", and she always gave us candy or peanuts. I understand we "brought" her the mumps too in her old age. Many times we wnet over with soup or pie for her, from home. I don't remember Uncle Martin at all. Mother didn't remember when he died. The brothers came to Ridott Township near the settlement of Freeport, Illionis. There Jurend Miller met Ecke Bohning.
