Peterson at the hospital in Webster City, caused the deepest sorrow in this community. Deceased had been ill but a few days first suffering from an attack of appendicitis. Complications then developed which demanded immediate major operation. He lingered for a few days following the operation and then passed away. Deceased was a soldier in the late war who saw active service in France and he was one of the most highly respected young men of the community. He leaves to mourn his early passing, his wife, a bride of a little more than a year, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Peterson, and a number of brothers, who are all grief stricken and who have the sincere sympathy of their many friends. Funeral services were held yesterday from the home northeast of town and from the M.E. church here, conducted by Rev. Chipperfield of the Webster City M.E. church. The local post of the American Legion, of which deceased was an honored member, had charge of the services. Interment was made in South Marion Cemetery. Stratford Courier August 3, 1922 Obituary Peterson Eddie W. Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Peterson, was born on the farm near Stratford, Dec. 16, 1895, and died at the Webster City hospital July 22, 1922, at the age of 26 years, 6 months, 6 days. Death came following an operation for appendicitis and a complication of diseases. Deceased was married to Miss Melinda Sonksen on March 9, 1921, and she was with him to the very last, not leaving his bedside at any time during his sickness. He was engaged in farming on the old home farm where he was born, five miles north of Stratford. Ed was always a true and faithful boy to all who knew him. He was a believer in his Creator the last letter he sent home to his mother before sailing for France, stated, "I have accepted Christ." He was in the Army during the late world war and left Webster City with an increment of men July 26, 1918, going to Camp Gordon, Georgia. There he was stationed but a short time before sailing to France where he landed Sept. 29, 1918. He was a member of the 9th Infantry, 2nd Division, Company H, saw active service of several fronts and was in the Army of occupation for some time. He again landed in New York August 1, 1919, and was discharged from the service at Camp Dodge, August 14, 1919. He leaves to mourn his early passing, his devoted wife, father, mother, and five brothers, Henry, Elmer, Eleck, Floyd and John, all of Stratford, and a host of relatives and loving friends. Two sisters, Emily and Mabel preceded him in death eighteen years ago. Funeral services were held Wednesday of last week from the home and from the local M.E. church, the later services being held at 2 o'clock, conducted by G.H. Dick of Stanhope. It was one of the largest funerals held in Stratford for several years, many hundreds coming to pay their last respects to this beloved young man. The American Legion post, of which deceased was a member, were out in uniform and gave their impressive services at the cemetery. The pallbearers were: Albert Olson, Emmet Peterson, Morris Carlson, Leonard Angstrom and George Peterson, all comrade at arms with deceased. The shooting squad were eight ex-service men as were the color bearers of three men. G.R. White was in command of the ex-service men. The flower girls were: Misses Hazel, Elsie and Mabel Angstrom and Violet Neese, and they were laden with many beautiful floral pieces. The following out of town relatives were present at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Amos Peterson; Mrs. Jorgen Peterson; and Mrs. Peter Peterson, all of Denison; Mrs. William Stegeman, and Laurence Hollander, of Schieswig; Mrs. Carl Witt and son, Walter, of Lamberton, Minn.; Mrs. Magnus Tadsen, Mrs. John Oldsen and daughter, Melinda, C.A. Oldsen, all of Wall Lake.
