Read More	Delphos Republican August 19, 1927 Edgar Arthur Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Z. R. Davis, was born August 7, 1881, and departed this life on August 9th, 1927, aged 46 years, and two days. He was born on the home farm 6 and one-half miles northeast of Delphos, Kansas, moving to the city of Delphos with his parents about fifteen years ago, which has been his home until the time of his death. He was a member of the State Lodge, No. 11, Knights of Pythias, and served in the capacity of Past Chancellor in his home order. Eddie, as he was familiarly called, sustained a fall when two and a half years old, which caused a permanent disability of the spine. Through all the years of suffering he was an example of patience and always had a smile for everyone, and to know him was to love him. He was reared in a good Christian spirit. The deceased has taken an active part in business in Delphos at various times. Before the family moved to town, he bought a restaurant, afterward known as the "Davis Cafe", which he owned for about two years. But owing to failing health he was compelled to sell. After regaining his health he clerked for his uncle, W.C. Davis, of the W.C. Davis Furniture Co., for 6 years. During the past year he has been associated with Frank Doty in the "Doty and Davis Battery and Gas Station." Eddie complained of not feeling well Sunday but on Monday and Tuesday seemed to be in his usual health, and the report that he had died suddenly Tuesday night, came as a shock to the whole community. Especially to be remembered in this sad hour, are the aged parents, who survive with ten brothers and sisters. They are: M.H. Davis; Mrs. Frank Chancy; W.E. Davis; Mrs. Effie Hardesty, all of Delphos. Mrs. Stella Prosser, Lawrence, Kansas; W.R. Davis, Miltonvale, Kansas; Miss Linnie Davis of the home; J.E. Davis, Hiahleah, Florida; Z.F. Davis of Delphos, and Mrs. Nellie Anderson, Star City, West Virginia. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Mrs. Anderson and J.E. Davis were unable to be here for the funeral. Memorial services were held at the M.E. Church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, in Delphos conducted by Rev. Cooper of Lamar. Interment was made in the Bethel Cemetery in the family plot. The following friends of the deceased acted as pall bearers: Dr. W.E. Casey, L.V. Jermark, Jerry Morrison, Willard Casey, Maurice Halley and O.D. Gautreaux. The singing was furnished by the Pilcher Quartette. AUGUST 12, 1927 Eddie Davis Dropped Dead Tuesday Night One of the greatest shocks ever felt in the Delphos community came Wednesday morning when the word was passed around that Eddie Davis had dropped dead on the street Tuesday night. Eddie was about the streets as usual Tuesday evening and had just been in the drug store. He was walking down the street and near the First National Bank fell in what is thought was a heart attack. He was carried in to the Leidigh Havens Lumber Office and Dr. Dieter called but died just as the doctor arrived. Eddie was born on the old Davis homestead east of town where Forney Davis now lives. He was 46 years old last Sunday. When about three years of age, he fell from the loft of a granary and had been a cripple since. Some years ago he ran a restaurant here, but worked too hard and was paralyzed for about a year. Later he worked for W.C. Davis in the furniture store. During the last winter he and Frank Doty formed a partnership for a battery business which they have been conducting. This spring they moved to their new building and Eddie added gas and oil to his line. He has always been well liked and has a host of friends who will miss Eddie in his old haunts about town.
