Edsen, age 90, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek, Iowa. He was born January 11, 1917, in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa. Edgar Otto Johannes Edsen was the son of Jens P. and Laura (Zabel) Edsen. Funeral services were be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa. Military honors will be conducted by McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion, with burial in the Ida Grove Cemetery. He was raised in the Ida Grove, Iowa, area and attended country school in Grant Township. As a young man, Edgar worked on the farm. He married Marion Krick in Sioux City, Iowa, on November 24, 1939. He was employed by Rasmussen Well Company and Farmers Co-op until he was drafted into the United States Navy during World War II. He was on submarine duty in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans from February of 1943 until November of 1945. Following his tour of duty, Edgar was employed as a petroleum salesman for forty years for the Farmer's Co-op. He retired in 1982. Edgar was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion, and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, walking, dancing, and playing cards. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. He was a great father and grandfather. Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, in 2004; an infant daughter, Janet Lee Edsen; his parents; a sister, Elvera Hollander; and a brother, Meinhart Edsen. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jerry and Mary Edsen of St. Louis, MO, and Craig and Marlene Edsen of Audubon; five grandchildren, Trent Edsen of Grinnell, Ryan Edsen and Lindsey Edsen Irlmeier, both of Ankeny, Michelle Edsen Moore of Iowa City, and David Edsen of St. Louis, MO; a brother and his wife, Edward and Wilhelmina Edsen of Ida Grove; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
