Funeral services will be held this afternoon from the former S. E. Smith home at 1:30 and at 2 p.m. at the Wall Lake Methodist church. Funeral services will be held this afternoon from the former S. E. Smith home at 1:30 and at 2 p.m. at the Wall Lake Methodist church. Edith Belle Carpenter was born April 25, 1875, in Mitchell county, Iowa, and passed away at her farm home east of Odebolt, April 11, 1938, at the age of 62 years, 11 months and 16 days. While still an infant she came with her parents to the Pleasant Hill neighborhood in Sac county. When 12 years of age she was converted to the Christian faith and joined the Methodist church soon thereafter, being a member of the Bethel church during if lifetime and of the Wall Lake Methodist church at the time of her death. She graduated from the Odebolt high school, attended Morningside college in Sioux City for a time and then taught school in Sac county. She was united in marriage to William J. Smith on July 6, 1898, and they set up housekeeping on the Kate Draper farm south of the Bethel community. In 1901 they moved to Union City, Okla., resided there 12 years, returning then to this county. They have resided in the Bethel community since. She is survived by her husband, William J. Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Scott of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Verna Neville of Pindall, Ark.; and one son, Emery E. of near Wall Lake; also six grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Ida Carpenter; and two brothers, Frank and Will Carpenter, all of El Reno, Okla. She was an active christian worker, entering all religious activities in her locality. The many who knew her, also knew her as a loyal wife and devoted mother.
