Description	:	Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 10 at Mattes Funeral Home in Odebolt for William Smith, 81, who died at Eastlawn Nursing home in Odebolt Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Rev. Peter DeBeer conducted the service. Mrs. Dorothy Purdy was organist. Interment was made in the Odebolt cemetery with Paul Fox, Emmett Dublinske, Chris Barkley, Lyle Paul, Ray Engel and John Sauter as attendants. William John Smith was born June 11, 1875 at Boone, Iowa. He was the second of six children born to Enfield and Paulina Smith, who were among the earliest pioneers in this area. He received his education in the local rural school and in the Odebolt high school. He was married July, 1898 to Edith B. Carpenter who died in 1938. Mr. Smith spent most of his life on a farm near Odebolt, with the exception of 12 years when the family lived near ElReno, Oklahoma, and during World War II when he worked on government construction at Bremerton, Washington. Since that time he has made his home with his son Emery, near Odebolt. He is survived by his three children, Emery, Verna Neville of Everton, Arkansas, and Vera Scott of Denver, Colorado; three brothers; Arthur E. of Odebolt, Clifford and Emery of Hunting Park, California. there are eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
