Daughter of Elza Casner and Irena Bell Mumford OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, January 9, 1986 ETTER Edith Elizabeth Casner was born July 22, 1900 in Warren County, Iowa, to Elza and Irena Mumford Casner. She passed away Dec. 29, 1985 at the age of 85 years, five months and seven days. Preceding her in death were her mother and father; three sisters, Ella Maddy of Russell, Eunice Keiran Rhodes of Des Moines and Winnie Casner; three brothers, Ezra Casner of California, and Freddie and James, who died in infancy. Early in her life Edith accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized. She taught Sunday School classes and served as a missionary secretary for a number of years. Later she placed her membership in Grace Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member and attended services as long as her health permitted. On Jan. 30, 1917, she married Asa Carl Etter. To this union 10 children were born, Dora Viola Duckworth, James Donald, who died in infancy, Wyoma Dell Duckworth, Robert Carl, Bruce Harold, Betty Irene Shafer, William Edward, Lucille Elizabeth Duckworth, Helen Mae Gardner and Patricia Louise Blubaugh. All of her married life Edith lived in Lucas County, where they farmed two miles east of Chariton. They were living there when the health of her companion of 57 years failed. They sold the farm and moved to a home they purchased in Chariton on South 13th Street. Edith's husband was only with her in their new home three weeks when he went to be with the Lord Sept. 28, 1974. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1967 and they were blessed with seven more years. Edith leaves to mourn her passing besides her children two brothers, Edward Casner of Stafford, Mo., and Elza Casner of Mariposa, California; a sister-in-law, Maude Keenan of Rogers, Ark.; six sons-in-law, Neal Duckworth, Ward Duckworth, Max Shafer, Duane Duckworth, Leo Blubaugh and Dale Gardner; three daughters-in-law, Opal Etter, Betty Jean Etter and Maxine Etter. She also leaves 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends and other relatives who will greatly miss her. Services were held Tuesday Dec. 31, 1985 at the Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Pickell conducting. Bearers were Jim Etter, Steven Etter, Alan Duckworth, James Blubaugh, Roger Larrington and Richard Duckworth. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery near Russell.
