Description	:	Mrs. Mitchell was born October 24, 1879, in Menlo, Iowa, to Mary and Benton Hathaway, early pioneers in this then rough and rugged country. She was married to James H. Mitchell at Pierson, March 15, 1899. They farmed in the Pierson community until 1907, where she gave birth to three children, the oldest, an infant, Hazel, having passed away during that time. They moved in March 1907 to a farm near Scotland, South Dakota, where they resided until 1935 when they returned to the Pierson community. Read More	Mrs. Mitchell was born October 24, 1879, in Menlo, Iowa, to Mary and Benton Hathaway, early pioneers in this then rough and rugged country. She was married to James H. Mitchell at Pierson, March 15, 1899. They farmed in the Pierson community until 1907, where she gave birth to three children, the oldest, an infant, Hazel, having passed away during that time. They moved in March 1907 to a farm near Scotland, South Dakota, where they resided until 1935 when they returned to the Pierson community. During their years in South Dakota, four more children were added to their family. She became a member of the Christian Church in Pierson at age 17 and retained its membership until her passing. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Neighbors of America and a charter member of the Camp at Scotland, South Dakota. In 1942, she moved to Los Angeles, California. Since 1961 she has lived with her daughter and husband, Inis and Joseph Davidson, in North Hollywood, where she lived until her death on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1964, at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Los Angeles. Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Pierson with Rev. Philip Kinton and a grandson, Rev. Clair Mitchell of Vermillion, South Dakota, officiating. Burial was beside her husband and daughter, both having preceded her passing, in Good Hope Cemetery, under direction of Dickison-Michaelson Funeral Home. Survivors include six children: Lloyd of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Frank of Canby, Minnesota; Mrs. Vern Behl of Scotland, South Dakota; Mrs. Virgil Jastram of Remsen; Mrs. Joseph Davidson of North Hollywood, California; and James of Kingsley; 20 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Whitmer Royer of Kingsley, and a brother, Ray Hathaway of Beach, North Dakota. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, one grandchild and three great grandchildren.
